Use Google Voice with your existing number

Up until now, if you wanted to use Google Voice, you needed to choose a new number (a "Google number"). Taking calls through your Google number allows us to offer features like call recording, call screening and getting text messages via email. But we know not everyone wants to switch to a new phone number, so it made sense for us to create a lighter version of Google Voice for people who are willing to trade some features for the ability to use their existing numbers.

Google announced that you now have the choice to get Google Voice with your existing mobile number OR with a Google number.

I have long gone and circled about Nokia E65. I have read countless tests / reviews, viewing pictures and videos to unconsciousness, but was too stingy to take action. But finally I made it, and I have no regrets, despite the dramatic price ...

The phone has only been in my possession over the weekend, but it is already set up through my local wireless netærk and therefore fully integrated with Gmail, Google Calendar, Truphone, Frings (including MSN Messenger, Skype, Google Talk and my regular VoIP provider Musimi ).

Wireless Setup

It was very easy to put the phone up to my wireless network (I have a Fritz! Box Wlan Annex A router / modem). There are only two snags as I see it. Phone several locations aligned to make contact via my network, for example. one comprehensive place and under the different programs. The second caveat is the power consumption. The use of wireless network is a regular flow of swallows that make the phone can only hold power for approx. 1 day if the constant use WLAN. However, there is no need to use the phone that way, because the various programs will make contact to the grid when they need it or you have set them.

Gmail and Google Calendar

It was a condition of buying the phone that I could get a meaningful way to integrate my Gmail and Google Calendar. It has succeeded. I started to install Google's own Gmail program (Google has more mobile applications here), But it is gangske redundant since you can configure your phone to send and receive mail. I put the phone up so that it should check for mail every half-hour (between 8-23 and only when I'm at home register). Only small nuisance is that it also checks sent by mail, so if I have sat at the computer and sent an e-mail so it appears also, but there must be a way around that part. If you know it, write like a comment.

Addition: I have a request from a reader made a small guide to how I have set the phone to check emails.

With Google Calendar, I could also have looked at Google's own solutionBut I had read to me that it was not bidirectional, ie. when I created an event on my phone, so the event would not be created in Google Calendar, only the phone's calendar. I chose to start with GooSyncWhich integrates fine with mobile own calendar (it is obviously a matter of trust if we dare confide their Google login information to 3rd-party. I use the example. Pt. 16 different Google products and the transfer of login GooSync now have access to them all . If you use Google, so you can see all the services you take advantage of here). We can unfortunately only one calendar with GooSync if you want to use more, so it costs money.

Afterwards, I stumbled upon Schedule WorldThat offers something like GooSync, but it is much more interesting because you can do much more without it costing anything. Therefore, I scrapped GooSync again, and 100% at Scheduleworld. With scheduleworld can I update multiple Google calendars and I can update with Outlook at work (I do one-way, since I only want my employment contracts in mobile and non-private agreements in the works).

Addition: I have a request from a reader made a little guide to synchronize Google Calendar and Outlook Scheduleworld subsequently.

Fringe

Easy installation of Fringe

Fringe setup was incredibly easy. Fringe has made a very simple solution that guides one through the whole installation in an intuitive way. One should bar fill in some things on your phone so you get an SMS, and so you can follow progress on your screen. This means that it is an advantage to sit in front of your PC when you have to put her phone up to the Fringe, but no absolute necessity. It can set the Fringe: MSN Messenger, Skype, Google Talk, Twitter and a SIP account. I have set everything up except Twitter. I am running Musimi on SIP account as I think it was difficult to have two SIP accounts on the phone itself, although it is possible.

Frings has a good product, but there are two things. It is somewhat difficult to sit chatting by SMS principle, when the usual alternative is a keyboard and 10 lynfingre (hehe yes ok maybe only 6). When using a VoIP component, so there is little more delay than usual, and immediately, so the sound is slightly more metallic, but I've only tried it a few times, so the foundation is flimsy.

Truphone

Truphone is truly a huge surprise to me. Truphone is a British company that offers mobile VoIP where you assigned a U.S. number (although a Danish Section underway). The only drawback I can find by Truphone is installing, but Youtube can help.

The sound via Truphone are fantastic, no delay or poor sound. Best of all is that you can make free calls to landlines in 40 countries including Denmark (Remember! +45 in front or else the call is not through). That means as long as you are near a wireless network, so you can make free calls to an incredible number of contacts. You can create several different profiles depending on where you are, for example. home, office or in a public network.

Conclusion

I'm delighted to put my new phone up to a lot of services, and I do not have many irritants, the only criticism has to be battery life, but on the other hand, so here I also played a part with the phone . Nokia E65 can be clearly advised that it has what you need, and if not, then you can install it very easily. E65 is a good VoIP phone, you can configure multiple SIP accounts, but I think it was difficult to have more than one set up with Nokia's own VoIP application. The reason that I could not choose which VoIP provider I would ring off when I did an Internet call.

Overall I am very happy and made me a little indispensable companion that can easily substitute my old (with a dash of old) mobile who smoke to Danish Red Cross.

Mobile VoIP is moving beyond its initial function as a new mechanism to get inexpensive international calls, reports In-Stat. While Mobile VoIP still poses a direct threat to operator voice revenue, it also represents a dynamic new capability that promises numerous applications. In-Stat projects that by 2013 Mobile VoIP applications will generate annual revenues of $32.2 billion, driven by over 278 million registered users worldwide.

One new application integrates Mobile VoIP into a unified mobile interface to social networking sites. In another new development, MVNOs and 3G operators without legacy networks are using Mobile VoIP to more cost effectively add voice to data offerings. In yet another scenario, a few carriers are using a form of Mobile VoIP, UMA, to support better indoor coverage and off-load macro networks.

“Applications such as Skype and Vonage have influenced users to think of voice as a data application,” says Frank Dickson, In-Stat analyst. “The increasing penetration of Wi-Fi in mobile devices was the beach head that Mobile VoIP applications needed. As user habits are being shaped by rich on-line communication experiences, mobile carriers control over devices and data applications is waning. Truphone unable to resolve iPhone 3.0 Bug

Truphone, a mobile Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application for iPhone and iPod touch has issued a service update following the release of the iPhone 3.1 Software Update.

"We are writing to inform you that should you install OS 3.1, you may encounter service problems with the current version of the Truphone application (version 3.0.2)," Truphone says.

In past there was a Bug by usingTruphone application with iPhone 3.0 firmware, the icons of all applications installed on iPhone got blurred, though Truphone refuse to accept that the problem was occurred due to installation of truphone application but most of the iPhone users think like this.

Here I want to mention that Truphone was the first to launched the compatible version of iPhone 3.0 but I think they launched in hurry and due to this their app got several bugs and now they are advising us to update iPhone 3.0 to iPhone 3.1.

Vodafone, Telecom given last chance to cut mobile rates in NZ

Vodafone and Telecom have been given less than a month to voluntarily slash the charges they impose on carriers to route calls and texts to mobile phones, before the Commerce Commission recommends the Government does it for them.

Arguments over whether Vodafone should be allowed to make an 11th-hour bid to try to stave off the regulation of mobile termination charges were the meat in the sandwich at a two-day conference in Wellington, organised by the commission to get feedback on its draft recommendation to regulate.

Review of Nimbuzz 0.95.1

New applications will inevitably get compared to the competition. But if existing rivals are of a high-enough quality, it's hard for a newcomer to make an impression. And so it is with Nimbuzz, a multiservice instant-messaging application that pales beside the superior Adium.

In use, we found Nimbuzz awkward and not entirely stable – the app crashed a couple of times during setup and didn't pick up contacts from some services until the app was restarted.

The interface, while simple on the surface, lacks options. Even rearranging groups within the contact list appears impossible, and anyone hankering after the under-the-hood flexibility of Adium will be disappointed.

Bundled VoIP and Growl support, along with the fact that it basically works, ensures Nimbuzz isn't a disaster, but we'd rather stick with Adium and Skype.

For now, Nimbuzz resembles a Mac app, but in use feels more like a clunky mobile app with many shortcomings.

Remember Vonage? How that infectious boop boobee doop boop tone from all those television commercials stuck in your head a few years ago?

Few details about the features of Vonage’s app have yet to emerge, but it’s unlikely the company will offer anything not already on offer from Skype, Truphone or Vopium, three of the more popular VoIP dialers available for the iPhone.

What is likely is that Apple will see increased pressure on many fronts to allow these VoIP apps to offer functionality that is not limited to WiFi networks – as is presently the case with any app serving VoIP on the iPhone – and to open up cell carriers’ 3G data networks to VoIP.

It’s also likely that Apple and AT&T will continue to argue, for their own reasons, that opening up 3G to VoIP is not such a good idea, but as Vonage and the coming wave of VoIP providers herald consumer demand for mobile VoIP capability, it’s clear the computer company and the cell carrier will have a hard time holding the line much longer

While waiting for Nokia to integrate Skype hopefully by Q3, there are some alternative ways to use your Skype account. You can either create a Skype-To-Go number but that would mean you have to use your mobile minutes instead you can use third party applications such as Nimbuzz or Fring which allows you can make VOIP calls over wifi/3G. Fring is my prefered choice since I have been using it for a long time, but Nimbuzz has Skype capabilities as well. Both of these applications can also make calls to other SIP network and googletalk.

To get started you’ll need to install Fring by going to m.fring.com on your mobile. After installing create a fring account and log in.

After logged in, select Skype and add the service.

Input your Skype id and password.

Once subscribed to Skype you can make a Skype test call to check your speaker and microphone.

Test Skype by selecting the call icon and then Skype Call and follow the voice prompt.

Select Skype Call out to make calls anywhere. Remember you will need Skype credits or Skype Subscription.

Skype on Mobile has to Wait

Skype's CEO says he can't “give a timetable' on when Skype-enabled mobile phones will debut because of technical issues.

Those itching to use Skype on their mobile phones may have to wait for while, as CEO Niklas Zennstrom revealed in an interview with a Finnish newspaper that Skype is running into “technical obstacles” with making its service available on cell phones. This comes as a blow for the eBay-owned company, as Skype on Mobile was poised to help the company generate revenue from many seeking to make cheap international calls from their mobile devices.

While some mobile devices running Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system can use Skype services, these represent fewer than 10 percent of cell phones sold. Zennstrom said he can't “give a timetable” on when Skype-enabled cell phones from manufacturers like Nokia would be available.

One of the 'technical obstacles” is that a mobile operator's data network is not designed for voice communication. Because of this, Skype on Mobile calls would suffer from poor voice quality.

As Skype lags, the young iSkoot has their own solution to bring Skype to mobile phones. Users install their program, iSkootMobile, onto their computers and mobile device. With the PC on, users have to send a text message to their PC, which then makes a SkypeOut call to the user's cell phone and to the party they're trying to reach. While even Skype-to-Skype calls would not be free, this program could offer savings for users trying to call international numbers from cell phones. VoxLib also released a similar application .

Jajah is going even further to get a head start on Skype with their recently released Jajah Mobile application for certain Java-based and Symbian phones. The application works connecting to Jajah's server through a data connection. Jajah is a truly unique VoIP application available for iPhone and iPod touch users. Not only can you make and receive calls over the internet using Jajah but unlike most other VoIP applications for iPod touch, you can also send and receive SMS messages using a WiFi connection. The great thing about Jajah is that as it works entirely over WiFI, you don’t even need a mobile call plan.

Although the call quality may not be the best, it is still more than adequate, especially for casual use. Jajah is also very easy to use as all you need to do is login into the Jajah website via your mobile phone and you are all set to make calls and send SMS messages.

Fring has been around for quite some time but it has now been adapted to enable iPod touch users to use the facility. In order to download the application, visit the iTunes App Store. Once you’ve installed the software on your iPod touch you can make free calls to other Fring, Skype, SkypeOut or any SIP user using the Fring app. In addition to the free calls, you can also send and receive instant messages using Fring as it is compatible with Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk and Twitter amongst others.

One handy feature you’ll notice when using Fring is that it will automatically log into Fring as soon as your phone is in a WiFi area, so you don’t have to worry about logging in and out of the service as you move around.

Nimbuzz
A unique selling point for Nimbuzz is that you can still make calls using your iPod touch even if WiFi is unavailable by using the Nimbuzz VoIP dial up facility. In addition to the standard VoIP features which enable you to make calls at reduced rates to landlines and other mobile phones using SkypeOut, Vyke, Gizmo5, SIPGate and A1, Nimbuzz also comes with a full dial pad making it easier to call numbers not on your contact list.

Nimbuzz also allows you to use the Nimbuzz instant messenger and chat with users on AIM, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, MySpace and Yahoo! Messenger.

Talkety
Similar to Jajah, Talkety is another web-based VoIP app that enables iPod touch users to save money on international calls, as well as calls to landlines and mobile phones. Raketu
This very popular VoIP provider recently updated their applications to enable iPod touch users to make use of their low cost calling service. You don’t need to jailbreak your phone as the service is entirely web-based. If you want to dial a phone direct from your iPod touch, you will need to download their RakSIP application and then activate it.

Using the web-based service you can also send SMS messages and emails. You can also sign up to their Click-to-Callme service so anyone call you directly from a web page containing your Click-to-Callme link.

I was wondering to find out the cheapest way to call Asia especially in Pakistan and India, I know the first thought comes in mind is the Skype. But I want to discover some thing new and better than skype. Nowadays people think that skype is the bench mark of cheapest calls any where, but I don't think so, there are several other VoIP service providers like Truphone, Jajah, Fring and Vopium, and all of them are providing very cheap calling rates, but the question is if we found some thing better while paying a little bit more...

Here I want to share the problem I was facing while using VoIP service, i.e. Voice distruction and very few VoIP will focus on this issue, few days back I was searching for alternative of skype, and found a post " Vopium: the alternative of mobile Skype" I go through it and found it interesting, I check Vopium and found it similiar to skype.
