Taking calls through your Google number allows us to offer features like call recording, call screening and getting text messages via email. But we know not everyone wants to switch to a new phone number, so it made sense for us to create a lighter version of Google Voice for people who are willing to trade some features for the ability to use their existing numbers.

Google announced that you now have the choice to get Google Voice with your existing mobile number OR with a Google number.

If you sign up using your existing number, you'll still get many of Google Voice's features. Most notably, you'll get all the functionality of Google voicemail, as explained in this video:

Nokia E65 as a VoIP mobile and indispensable companion

I have long gone and circled about Nokia E65. But finally I made it, and I have no regrets, despite the dramatic price ...

The phone has only been in my possession over the weekend, but it is already set up through my local wireless netærk and therefore fully integrated with Gmail, Google Calendar, Truphone, Frings (including MSN Messenger, Skype, Google Talk and my regular VoIP provider Musimi ).

Wireless Setup

It was very easy to put the phone up to my wireless network (I have a Fritz! Box Wlan Annex A router / modem). There are only two snags as I see it. Phone several locations aligned to make contact via my network, for example. one comprehensive place and under the different programs. The second caveat is the power consumption. The use of wireless network is a regular flow of swallows that make the phone can only hold power for approx. 1 day if the constant use WLAN. However, there is no need to use the phone that way, because the various programs will make contact to the grid when they need it or you have set them.

Gmail and Google Calendar

It was a condition of buying the phone that I could get a meaningful way to integrate my Gmail and Google Calendar. It has succeeded. I started to install Google's own Gmail program (Google has more mobile applications here), But it is gangske redundant since you can configure your phone to send and receive mail. I put the phone up so that it should check for mail every half-hour (between 8-23 and only when I'm at home register). Only small nuisance is that it also checks sent by mail, so if I have sat at the computer and sent an e-mail so it appears also, but there must be a way around that part. If you know it, write like a comment.

Addition: I have a request from a reader made a small guide to how I have set the phone to check emails.

With Google Calendar, I could also have looked at Google's own solutionBut I had read to me that it was not bidirectional, ie. when I created an event on my phone, so the event would not be created in Google Calendar, only the phone's calendar. I chose to start with GooSyncWhich integrates fine with mobile own calendar (it is obviously a matter of trust if we dare confide their Google login information to 3rd-party. I use the example. Pt. 16 different Google products and the transfer of login GooSync now have access to them all . If you use Google, so you can see all the services you take advantage of here). We can unfortunately only one calendar with GooSync if you want to use more, so it costs money.

Afterwards, I stumbled upon Schedule WorldThat offers something like GooSync, but it is much more interesting because you can do much more without it costing anything. Therefore, I scrapped GooSync again, and 100% at Scheduleworld. With scheduleworld can I update multiple Google calendars and I can update with Outlook at work (I do one-way, since I only want my employment contracts in mobile and non-private agreements in the works).

Addition: I have a request from a reader made a little guide to synchronize Google Calendar and Outlook Scheduleworld subsequently.

Fringe

Easy installation of Fringe

Fringe setup was incredibly easy. Fringe has made a very simple solution that guides one through the whole installation in an intuitive way. One should bar fill in some things on your phone so you get an SMS, and so you can follow progress on your screen. This means that it is an advantage to sit in front of your PC when you have to put her phone up to the Fringe, but no absolute necessity. It can set the Fringe: MSN Messenger, Skype, Google Talk, Twitter and a SIP account. I have set everything up except Twitter. I am running Musimi on SIP account as I think it was difficult to have two SIP accounts on the phone itself, although it is possible.

Frings has a good product, but there are two things. It is somewhat difficult to sit chatting by SMS principle, when the usual alternative is a keyboard and 10 lynfingre (hehe yes ok maybe only 6). When using a VoIP component, so there is little more delay than usual, and immediately, so the sound is slightly more metallic, but I've only tried it a few times, so the foundation is flimsy.

Truphone

Truphone is truly a huge surprise to me. Truphone is a British company that offers mobile VoIP where you assigned a U.S. number (although a Danish Section underway). The only drawback I can find by Truphone is installing, but Youtube can help.

The sound via Truphone are fantastic, no delay or poor sound. Best of all is that you can make free calls to landlines in 40 countries including Denmark (Remember! +45 in front or else the call is not through). That means as long as you are near a wireless network, so you can make free calls to an incredible number of contacts. You can create several different profiles depending on where you are, for example. home, office or in a public network.

Conclusion

I'm delighted to put my new phone up to a lot of services, and I do not have many irritants, the only criticism has to be battery life, but on the other hand, so here I also played a part with the phone . Nokia E65 can be clearly advised that it has what you need, and if not, then you can install it very easily. E65 is a good VoIP phone, you can configure multiple SIP accounts, but I think it was difficult to have more than one set up with Nokia's own VoIP application. The reason that I could not choose which VoIP provider I would ring off when I did an Internet call.

Overall I am very happy and made me a little indispensable companion that can easily substitute my old (with a dash of old) mobile who smoke to Danish Red Cross.

Mobile Phone News

VoIP calls with Truphone on the iPhone

Thank Truphone can make calls Voip via your iPhone in comfort and tranquility. The single most important change in Truphone for Android v2.0 is completely reworked user interface which makes the app easier to use. In addition, the code is tweaked (or completely changed – we’re not sure), resulting in faster and more responsive experience.

Truphone, however, remains the same at its core, providing users with the ability to make free or cheap phone calls (Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Talk and Skype are supported), as well as chat with their buddies from multiple IM networks — including Skype, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM and Twitter.

Want it? While Mobile VoIP still poses a direct threat to operator voice revenue, it also represents a dynamic new capability that promises numerous applications. In-Stat projects that by 2013 Mobile VoIP applications will generate annual revenues of $32.2 billion, driven by over 278 million registered users worldwide.

One new application integrates Mobile VoIP into a unified mobile interface to social networking sites. In another new development, MVNOs and 3G operators without legacy networks are using Mobile VoIP to more cost effectively add voice to data offerings. In yet another scenario, a few carriers are using a form of Mobile VoIP, UMA, to support better indoor coverage and off-load macro networks.

“Applications such as Skype and Vonage have influenced users to think of voice as a data application,” says Frank Dickson, In-Stat analyst. “The increasing penetration of Wi-Fi in mobile devices was the beach head that Mobile VoIP applications needed. As user habits are being shaped by rich on-line communication experiences, mobile carriers control over devices and data applications is waning. Mobile carrier attempts to slow the spread of on-line Mobile VoIP are proving challenging as well.”

Source

Vopium approved as member of Symbian Foundation

Mobile VoIP provider extends its corporation with Symbian and becomes member of the Symbian Foundation

Vopium today announced that it has joined the Symbian Foundation, which, together with its ecosystem, is creating the most proven, open and complete mobile software platform. The platform is based on Symbian OS and software assets contributed by Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, and Sony Ericsson, including the S60 and MOAP(S) user interfaces.

“The Symbian Foundation welcomes Vopium into the community,” said David Wood, catalyst and futurist for Symbian. “Applications developers are crucial to creating the richest possible user experiences. We are eager to see the innovations that Vopium will bring to Symbian consumers.”

As a member of the Symbian Foundation, Vopium gains the immediate right to license the Symbian Foundation platform, royalty free and without source code fees; participate in the governance of the foundation; and take part in joint marketing and branding campaigns.

“Having been member of SPN (Symbian Partner Network) since the very early days of Vopium, I am very pleased now that we have been approved as member of the Symbian Foundation” said Tanveer Sharif, Vopium’s CEO. “We will now be able to tap right into the Symbian Foundation platform and not least be on the forefront of new OS releases and updates”

How Vopium works:
Vopium is a free mobile software application that leverages mobile VoIP and Wi-Fi technology to greatly reduce the cost of international phone calls made from mobile phones while also maintaining excellent call quality. Free and easy to download, Vopium integrates directly with the user’s mobile address book, and automatically re-routing all international calls via the least expensive method available. In addition to heavily discounted international calls, Vopium users can also slash the costs of sending text messages (SMS) abroad.

Truphone unable to resolve iPhone 3.0 Bug

Truphone, a mobile Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application for iPhone and iPod touch has issued a service update following the release of the iPhone 3.1 Software Update.

"We are writing to inform you that should you install OS 3.1, you may encounter service problems with the current version of the Truphone application (version 3.0.2)," Truphone says.

In past there was a Bug by usingTruphone application with iPhone 3.0 firmware, And so it is with Nimbuzz, a multiservice instant-messaging application that pales beside the superior Adium.

In use, we found Nimbuzz awkward and not entirely stable – the app crashed a couple of times during setup and didn't pick up contacts from some services until the app was restarted.

The interface, while simple on the surface, lacks options. Even rearranging groups within the contact list appears impossible, and anyone hankering after the under-the-hood flexibility of Adium will be disappointed.

Bundled VoIP and Growl support, along with the fact that it basically works, ensures Nimbuzz isn't a disaster, but we'd rather stick with Adium and Skype.

For now, Nimbuzz resembles a Mac app, but in use feels more like a clunky mobile app with many shortcomings.

How To Install Truphone (VoIP Mobile Calls)?

Vonage iPhone App Gives Mobile VoIP a Boost

<img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; How that infectious boop boobee doop boop tone from all those television commercials stuck in your head a few years ago?

Few details about the features of Vonage’s app have yet to emerge, but it’s unlikely the company will offer anything not already on offer from Skype, Truphone or Vopium, three of the more popular VoIP dialers available for the iPhone.

What is likely is that Apple will see increased pressure on many fronts to allow these VoIP apps to offer functionality that is not limited to WiFi networks – as is presently the case with any app serving VoIP on the iPhone – and to open up cell carriers’ 3G data networks to VoIP.

It’s also likely that Apple and AT&T will continue to argue, for their own reasons, that opening up 3G to VoIP is not such a good idea, but as Vonage and the coming wave of VoIP providers herald consumer demand for mobile VoIP capability, it’s clear the computer company and the cell carrier will have a hard time holding the line much longer

Vopium Adds 25 More Countries for Its Low Cost Calling Solution

Vopium, the leading international mobile communications company, today announced the launch of its mobile VoIP service in 25 new countries, offering low-cost and free international mobile phone calls. Mobile VoIP apps reduces mobile bills upto 90% and also not threat for roaming charges. Let me tell you how mobile VoIP applications works. End to end mobile phone VOIP applications enable two or more users to do a voice conversation in a straight line, without the need to go through an established voice service at any time. They include applications such as:

Fring, Gizmo5, Google Talk, JAJAH, Jaxtr, Mig33, Nimbuzz, Skype, Talkety, Talkonaut, Truphone, Vopium, Yackie Mobile, Yahoo! Voice and Yeigo.

These applications work via WIFI as well as via mobile network protocols such as GPRS, UMTS, etc.. They are the main menace to established mobile voice carriers. Mobile VoIP companies think that they are the friend of Mobile operators because they allow their user to save cost, and in return they will share revinew, I think Mobile Operator don't want to share their profits with these mobile VoIP companies. While watching Laila Makki program on Telecom TV saying about mobile VoIP application and also mention her most favourite apps (i.e. Vopium and Truphone)

Traditional mobile operators deal with this danger by numerous instruments including avoidance, pressure, lobbying etc..

1. Mobile operators often impede VOIP traffic on their own GPRS, UMTS, and other networks.
2. Mobile operators often eliminate VOIP numbers in the flat plans or else they obstruct to reach them.
3. Habitually, mobile operators pressure handset vendors not to release WIFI enabled terminals.
4. Regularly, mobile operators pressure handset vendors to put out of action any mobile VoIP access for third party developers in their mobile application developer platforms.
5. All providers of operating system for mobile handsets are considering VOIP an unthinkable thing.

The checks imposed by usual mobile operators may result in an break for beginners to the mobile telephony market. WIFI may become the main protocol for VOIP. Any provider or consortium of providers giving sufficient WIFI coverage, especially in major city areas, may have an plus in this new VOIP arena. The source of revenue may shift from the voice service itself to assured QoS and/or coverage.

Also, at a time when traditional handheld OSs, such as Synbian, Windows Mobile and Leopard, pay too much of a tribute to the war on VOIP, other OSs may take over the room they left not secure, such as Linux in a lot of of its mutations.

7 Great VoIP apps alternatives To Skype

Vbuzzer
Vbuzzer allows users to send instant messages after downloading the software onto their computer. US and Canada residents can also enjoy free Internet faxing with this provider. VoIP services are available and start at 1.5c/min.

VoIPBuster
This software promises great results to existing Skype users. Sending an SMS to a US based account holder from the US will only cost you 8 cents per message. What looks really attractive to me though is their FREE calls network of some 36 popular countries. When you buy credit with the company you can call any of the landlines within the approved countries for free. Please read the guidelines as some limitations apply.

Smart VoIP
SmartVoIP is another VoIP client that promises you cheap rates and great service. According to their list, rates are incredible cheap and chances are that you will benefit from using them and save money. You can also make phone-to-phone calls with this software client.

ooVoo
If video calling with several friends (or business partners) is your thing then ooVoo is a great client to research further. ooVoo comes with several usage plans and you can also use the service to call others, send files and chat with text.

GoogleTalk
Probably known to most Gmail users, Google Talk is directly integrated into your Gmail account. To be honest, I don’t like using this service because of the integration. It distracts me from doing what I set out to do, namely to read and reply to my emails. You can however download GoogleTalk as a separate software to using it in Gmail which is probably the safer method if you don’t want to waste unnecessary time.

iChat
iChat is the instant chat messaging suite for Mac users. It is a powerful messaging sofware that allows you to place video calls and much more with the integration of your iSight video camera.

Jajah
Jajah needs to be seen since it promises to connect you free of charge to any phone in the world on your first call. You simply insert your own home number, then your friend’s number and press the green call button on their website. It will then connect you with your chosen line. There is a system in place that limits you to the amount of time you can use free phone calls though but having said this, Jajah is worth a closer look if you want to save money calling overseas.

Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile Phones

We all know what Skype is, so I won’t bore you with a description. Online daters can now call each other using Jajah's VoIP, which makes both numbers anonymous while still allowing each party to use their normal phone.

The new feature offers a good middle ground between the text interactions you typically go through on dating sites and actually meeting your potential match face to face. The integrated Jajah widget will allow you to talk with a prospective match though an online voice call, without having to divulge any of your real contact information should things turn messy.

This isn’t the first time dating services have implemented voice chat — Match.com previously offered its own service that was powered by the now-defunct Jangl, but it’s been out of action for the last nine months. You can either create a Skype-To-Go number but that would mean you have to use your mobile minutes instead you can use third party applications such as Nimbuzz or Fring which allows you can make VOIP calls over wifi/3G. Fring is my prefered choice since I have been using it for a long time, but Nimbuzz has Skype capabilities as well. Both of these applications can also make calls to other SIP network and googletalk.

To get started you’ll need to install Fring by going to m.fring.com on your mobile. Nimbuzz is using Voxbone to enable its users to make voice calls – without benefit of 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity – to their contacts on any of all popular IM and VoIP services, including Gizmo5 and Skype.

Nimbuzz, running on all Internet-capable mobile phones, detects when the handset is out of Wi-Fi or 3G range and conveniently steps in, requesting permission to automatically dial a local access number and route the call over the Internet. Such calls are free except for the low charge (if any) to the local access number. The Nimbuzz software client determines the correct access number to dial from the user’s Nimbuzz profile.

Currently growing at a rate of over 750,000 sign-ups per month and operating in 200 countries, Nimbuzz combines the services of mobile VoIP, chat, location, file sharing and MMS under one application. Equally important, it works across popular communities and social networks, including Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, GoogleTalk, AIM, Facebook and MySpace. Nimbuzz VoIP also reaches PSTN phones through Skype-Out, using any of 10 VoIP third-party VoIP services (including Skype). A full phone keypad is part of its interface, along with the multi-service buddy list.

“We wanted Nimbuzz to be a truly mass-market application,” said Tobias Kemper, Nimbuzz head of communications. “Not one limited to this mobile platform, or that chat/calling network, or a particular click sequence. By adding the DID numbers supplied by Voxbone, we can provide reliable mobile VoIP outside of Internet range and over 2G networks in over 50 countries, with any Internet-enabled handset and no change in user behavior.”

How To Use JAJAH Direct From Your Phone

JAJAH Direct has been introduced quite a while ago and is growing rapidly but we didn't want to miss the chance to remind you how easy it is to set up a local JAJAH Direct number and save big on all your long-distance and international phone calls - making calls just like any other call, but so much cheaper.

With JAJAH Direct you get a local phone number for each international number you want to call. So you make an international call but pay like it is a local one. No need to be near your computer and no need for the person on the other end of the line to do anything except answering the phone!

Here is an example of how one of my phone contacts looks like:

Although this is an iPhone example, you can use JAJAH Direct from any mobile or landline, wherever you are to call wherever you want.

How it works - 3 easy steps to start saving:

1. You get a local number for each international number you want to call to.
2. Save the new number to your phone.
3. Call directly from your phone.

In the example above you can see that without JAJAH I would have to call my friend in Austria at $1.50 per minute, now with the JAJAH Direct number local to me (I live in San Francisco) I can call him at the cost of a local call by simply dialing the unique number that JAJAH provided to me.

You only have to set up your local numbers once. After you set up your numbers, you can save them to your mobile phone and use them for future calls.

Are you ready to set up your local numbers? Here's how:

Watch this one minute video (no sound) to learn how to set up JAJAH Direct local numbers.

VOIP Provider JAJAH Gets TiE50 Award

JAJAH has been nominated for TiE50 award, as a leader in novelty, ingenuity, and management excellence. "That difference, though, is starting to fade."

Skype on Mobile has to Wait

Skype's CEO says he can't “give a timetable' on when Skype-enabled mobile phones will debut because of technical issues.

Those itching to use Skype on their mobile phones may have to wait for while, as CEO Niklas Zennstrom revealed in an interview with a Finnish newspaper that Skype is running into “technical obstacles” with making its service available on cell phones. This comes as a blow for the eBay-owned company, as Skype on Mobile was poised to help the company generate revenue from many seeking to make cheap international calls from their mobile devices.

While some mobile devices running Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system can use Skype services, these represent fewer than 10 percent of cell phones sold. Zennstrom said he can't “give a timetable” on when Skype-enabled cell phones from manufacturers like Nokia would be available.

One of the 'technical obstacles” is that a mobile operator's data network is not designed for voice communication. Because of this, Skype on Mobile calls would suffer from poor voice quality.

As Skype lags, the young iSkoot has their own solution to bring Skype to mobile phones. Users install their program, iSkootMobile, onto their computers and mobile device. With the PC on, users have to send a text message to their PC, which then makes a SkypeOut call to the user's cell phone and to the party they're trying to reach. While even Skype-to-Skype calls would not be free, this program could offer savings for users trying to call international numbers from cell phones. VoxLib also released a similar application .

Jajah is going even further to get a head start on Skype with their recently released Jajah Mobile application for certain Java-based and Symbian phones. The application works connecting to Jajah's server through a data connection. The server will then connect to the requested number through VoIP and then call the user back in an experience that is supposed to be the same as making a regular mobile call.

Nimbuzz brings on CMO with chops

Nimbuzz, the super fly mobile social messenger, just brought in a new CMO, Neal Fullman. This is great for iPod touch users as previously you couldn’t make calls using the device. VoIP enables you to make telephone calls from your iPod touch using the internet and as a result is far cheaper than a standard mobile phone service provider.

So if you are an iPod touch user who travels abroad regularly or just make a lot of calls to landlines or mobile phones on different networks, the following applications could save you quite a bit of money.

Truphone

Truphone recently created a VoIP application specifically for the iPod touch and it is free to download from the iTunes App Store. Truphone enables users to make free calls to other Truphone, Skype and Google Talk users. They also offer low cost calls to landlines and other mobile phones using a WiFi connection.

Unlike Skype which restricts instant messaging to Skype users, Truphone enables you to send instant messages to Skype, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and AIM users. It even lets you post status updates to everyone’s favourite microblog, Twitter.

Skype
Unless you have been living in a cave, you have probably heard of Skype or even used it to make computer-to-computer calls. Now Skype has adapted the application for the iPod touch. Skype is free to download from the iTunes App Store. The application for iPhones and the iPod touch enables you to make free Skype-to-Skype calls and make reduced tariff calls to landlines and other mobile phones when connected to the internet via WiFi. You can even sign into Skype from your iPod touch and send instant messages to other Skype users on Edge, 3G and WiFi. What is nice about Skype is that you can choose to subscribe to the service, or use their pay
as you go facilities.

However, (at the time of writing) the app does have one major drawback: you can only make calls from your iPhone when connected via WiFi, unlike Truphone, which can route calls via 3G to a local number and then onto the recipient.

Jajah
Jajah is a truly unique VoIP application available for iPhone and iPod touch users. Not only can you make and receive calls over the internet using Jajah but unlike most other VoIP applications for iPod touch, you can also send and receive SMS messages using a WiFi connection. The great thing about Jajah is that as it works entirely over WiFI, you don’t even need a mobile call plan.

Although the call quality may not be the best, it is still more than adequate, especially for casual use. Jajah is also very easy to use as all you need to do is login into the Jajah website via your mobile phone and you are all set to make calls and send SMS messages.

Fring
Fring has been around for quite some time but it has now been adapted to enable iPod touch users to use the facility. In order to download the application, visit the iTunes App Store. Once you’ve installed the software on your iPod touch you can make free calls to other Fring, Skype, SkypeOut or any SIP user using the Fring app. In addition to the free calls, you can also send and receive instant messages using Fring as it is compatible with Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk and Twitter amongst others.

One handy feature you’ll notice when using Fring is that it will automatically log into Fring as soon as your phone is in a WiFi area, so you don’t have to worry about logging in and out of the service as you move around.

Nimbuzz
A unique selling point for Nimbuzz is that you can still make calls using your iPod touch even if WiFi is unavailable by using the Nimbuzz VoIP dial up facility. In addition to the standard VoIP features which enable you to make calls at reduced rates to landlines and other mobile phones using SkypeOut, Vyke, Gizmo5, SIPGate and A1, Nimbuzz also comes with a full dial pad making it easier to call numbers not on your contact list.

Nimbuzz also allows you to use the Nimbuzz instant messenger and chat with users on AIM, Google Talk, MSN Messenger, MySpace and Yahoo! Messenger.

Talkety
Similar to Jajah, Talkety is another web-based VoIP app that enables iPod touch users to save money on international calls, as well as calls to landlines and mobile phones. Talkety also has the additional feature of enabling conference calling with up to 50 participants, however this is only available on their pro service.

Also unique to Talkety is the ability to synchronise your contacts on your iPod touch with the Mac OS X Address Book. As a basic account user you will not be tied into a subscription contract. All you need to do is ensure that there are sufficient funds in your Talkety account to make calls.

Raketu
This very popular VoIP provider recently updated their applications to enable iPod touch users to make use of their low cost calling service. You don’t need to jailbreak your phone as the service is entirely web-based. If you want to dial a phone direct from your iPod touch, you will need to download their RakSIP application and then activate it.

Using the web-based service you can also send SMS messages and emails. You can also sign up to their Click-to-Callme service so anyone call you directly from a web page containing your Click-to-Callme link.

SIP-VoIP [Requires Jailbroken iPod touch]
This freeware app from TouchMods enables iPod touch and iPhone users to make VoIP phone calls, but there is a arguable drawback - you need to jailbreak your device first. In addition to this, iPod touch users will also need a Touchmod microphone. From there on, getting VoIP to work on the iPod touch is very simple. Once the application has been installed you are free to choose your SIP-VoIP service from a choice including FreeCall and Gizmo5.

Although it is a simple enough application to use, if you don’t want to jailbreak your iPod touch it would be advisable to opt for one of the previously mentioned Apple-sanctioned apps.

6 Voip Features That Attract People

VOIP is an advanced technology which has surpassed the telephone companies and the mobile companies. Its popularity is increasing enormously with an increase in its network coverage. It has proved to be an astonishing invention which has created a new mode of telecommunication by using internet. VOIP is an abbreviated form of Voice Over Internet Protocol. Go to voip for more information.

Salient Features Of VOIP

The VOIP technology possesses many salient features which have attracted a large section of people towards itself.

1 - With the introduction of VOIP technology, the making of calls has become easy and cheap. You can easily make local, long distance, and international calls by using a broadband net connection which is a high-speed net connection.

2 - Its one of the significant advantages is the capability of directing the incoming calls to the VOIP service and one can easily get the details of incoming calls from any computer possessing internet by using VOIP system.

3 - It is a network that follows you wherever you go therefore you will never miss any of your important calls even if you are out of town.

4 - It has helped a lot in cost reduction because of the cheap call rates, the monthly telephone bills have cut down. Therefore, setting up of VOIP is very much beneficial economically.

5 - There are many value added services offered by the various VOIP service providers. For example, there is voice mail facility, 3-way conference, speed dialing, call forwarding, simultaneous ring, call waiting, caller ID, call return, caller ID block, anonymous call rejection, an interesting feature of do not disturb, and last number dial. All these services are mostly free of cost in their basic service plan.

6 - There is a facility of managing your VOIP account online from any corner of the world if there is an availability of a broadband internet connection.

Drawbacks Of VOIP Technology

The dark side of using VOIP technology has made the customer to reach the state of dilemma whether to go for VOIP technology or not. The major disadvantage of VOIP is that a problem can be cropped up by using VOIP technology and text messaging because it has been found that the use of this technology can lead to many security flaws. Refer to voip for more information.

Experts are working on the problem of security flaws, but have not come to any results yet. Therefore, one cannot rely completely on the use of VOIP technology. In terms of security, VOIP is not also completely supportive for their encryptions. Because of this weak point, it has become easy for the cyber attackers to impede the communication system.

How To Call Without VOIP

It is also very easy to make calls without possessing VOIP service by using an adaptor. This adaptor will be hooked up to a regular phone and to your VOIP in order to utilize the residential VOIP phone which can be a VOIP phone, landline, or cell phone. This adapter has proved to be very much useful for those who do not want to make investment in VOIP service.

Residential VOIP

Residential VOIP is a type of software which permits the downloading of technology on your computer to chat with anyone across the globe. In this system of communication, computer will be solving the purpose of the telephone. There is one specification in using residential VOIP service and that is the person whom you want to contact should also need to possess the software with same technology on his computer.

Therefore, after considering the both positive and negative aspects of the VOIP technology, you should come to an apt and appropriate decision whether to opt for it or not. But even more bad news is on the horizon for the likes of AT&T and Southwestern Bell; projections indicate that by 2010 more than 25% of American households will no longer even own a traditional land line.

But this collapse isn’t just a case of good companies struggling because of new competitors and new technology. Rather, there are a number of ways that the telecoms actually brought on their demise…33 reasons in fact. And if you want to know why nobody is going to own a landline in 5 years, and why there is almost no hope of an AT&T turnaround, you better read this…

Were the telecommunications companies asking for it?

1. How customer-friendly and customer focused have telecommunications companies been, during their ?heyday?? Apparently, not much, as this customer statement conveys, ?I had been waiting for years to get CW/CID. Never got it in my area? Signed up with VoIP and had it from day 1. I have 2 VoIP providers with more features and it?s still cheaper than what I was paying for 1 Landline?

So is VoIP meeting a demand that the Telcos were too complacent to meet? If yes, then it was just a matter of time before the telecoms would have to bow down to newer concepts and technology such as VoIP. And what were their R&D departments doing anyway? Why were telecom giants not incorporating new technologies and features into their services before outsiders could come in and capture the market?

2. A classic example of how ?outsider? vendors are meeting a demand that telcommunications companies could and should have; is GotVoice ? a company that lets you access your home and cell voicemail via the web. Blogger Ted states, ?How can I have access to my home and cell voice mail from the web and through email? If we had telephone companies that knew how to build services that customers wanted, this wouldn’t even be a question. But there is NO innovation going on at the phone company (fill in your favorite one, or AT&T if you are reading this after they have bought everyone else). Thus companies like GotVoice can come along and fill in the niche.?

3. While some telecoms are waking up to the fact that they better brush up their act if they want to continue existing, how well are they adapting? According to the article, ‘Pure VoIP Vs. Telecom VoIP: Guidance From VoIP.com,’ ?? the telephone company’s VoIP is roughly $ 33 and dedicated VoIP providers are $ 20.?

If VoIP is more cost effective for providers, why are the Telco VoIP rates higher than those of the the dedicated IP providers? The article highlights, ?The simple answer might be that it’s easier to give consumers a break if you’re not shoring up a century’s worth of copper wire losses with new technology revenue. One way to do that is by squeezing premium prices out of VoIP consumers. A common practice is to offer very basic VoIP plans with few features and limited calling areas, prompting users to upgrade to more expensive plans. In comparison, companies that focus solely on VoIP solutions tend to offer more comprehensive feature sets and expansive calling areas for substantially less than their competitors.?

They were asking for it, weren?t they?

What else makes VoIP more attractive than the traditional service? Is it cost, is it better technology, or is it a combination of factors?

It?s Cheaper!

4. Can the telecoms even begin to fathom the concept of competition within free ? that?s right ? free international phone calls? Well, VoIP companies can ? and they even have a business model that makes it profitable!

There?s Raketu (40 countries), futurephone.com (50 countries), and then there?s Skype’s free SkypeOut promotion (2 countries ? US and Canada).

5. Free phone adaptor shipped anywhere in the world, for just $ 6.99/month and you get cheap VoIP minutes? Check out iConnectHere?s (deltathree) newly launched ?World Plan.?

Why VoIP is a better technology anyway?

6. Raketu?s peer-to-peer (p2p) technology eliminates problem areas such as the security issues associated with supernodes (older VoIP technology). This allows the highest quality of VoIP calling and the highest call-completion. In essence, VoIP is evolving everyday ? and it will only get better with time aka the evolution of PCs into laptops.

7. All iConnectHere service plans offer a Virtual Calling Card which allows customers to make calls from toll-free access numbers in 27 countries. They also offer a PC-to-Phone softphone client, which you can use instead/in addition to the phone adaptor. Other value-add features include voicemail, caller ID, 3-way calling, advanced call forwarding and real-time call records.

8. Pingtel, a provider of open source, Linux-based enterprise VoIP solutions, and Voxbone, a provider of international VoIP origination services have completed interoperability testing between their respective offerings. ?As a result of this certification, customers can select Pingtel’s SIPxchange IP-PBX VoIP software solution in combination with Voxbone’s call origination services and thereby benefit from cost-effective calls routed to a SIP-based device (IP-phone, IP-PBX, etc.),? states blogger and VoIP expert Tom Keating.

R&D ? Evolving Models; New Launches

9. Packet8 maintains a strong focus on evolving better and newer products. While the original Packet8 Videophone was retailed at $ 299, the new soon-to-be launched Packet8 will be priced at $ 150.

This new Packet8 portable model, besides being smaller and lighter than the current model, supports the H.264 standard, features a jog-wheel similar to an iPod for navigating the menu screens, and will allow you to hook up your home analog cordless phone. Keating states, ?The new videophone is actually more like an ATA (analog telephony adaptor) with a video screen and camera added on top.? The gist is that in the coming months and years, you will see better VoIP products at even better prices.

10. Switchvox, a provider of IP-PBX phone systems for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), has just launched Switchvox v2.6 at the recent Internet Telephony Conference & Expo. Features include Call Recording Backups, More Reports, Dial by First Name Directory, One Touch Agent Login, Improved Updater, Complex Network Support, and VoIP Provider Compatibility.

11. Skype continues to evolve its current technology - the next major release of Skype, Skype 3.0 beta will be launched in mid-November.

12. Web-based VoIP for Mac and Linux will be available soon.

13. Want to dream about a VoIP enabled future? How about this? ?A host of brand new, VoIP-enabled cell phones will soon be ready for action. Imagine driving to work, receiving a call on your cell phone from a client, and then continuing that call on the corporate Wi-Fi network as you walk into the front office. all without any interruption to your call-in-progress. The cell network will just “hand off” the call to your Wi-Fi network? (O?Reilly Network)

But what about voice quality and call completion issues?

14. ?A large-scale VoIP study from Keynote Systems concludes that VoIP audio quality is improving, and in some cases exceeds that of the traditional phone network?so long as you’re making calls within the US,? says Nate Anderson (Some VoIP services surpass traditional phones). He adds, ?VoIP from the cable companies actually surpassed the traditional phone network in reliability, meaning that the service was more often available and connected calls without dropping them. Cable providers also led the way in audio quality; the top firm in Keynote’s study actually turned in an MOS of 4.24, above most “real” phone networks.?

This superior MOS is a result of PacketCable, an IP multimedia transmission system optimized for cable plant. However, this does not apply to all VoIP providers - those who simply run standard VoIP connections over a cable modem do not see the same results.

Features, features!

15. The newly released Skype v2.6 beta constitutes these features:

Click to call ordinary phone numbers on any website (optional install) Find and join Skypecasts in the Live tab. Share your links in mood message. Search the web with the Google Toolbar (optional install)16. The Fritzbox Fon Wlan 7050 is an ADSL VoIP router with built-in PBX (private branch exchange) that allows you to make calls over both the conventional telephone network and the Internet. ?You can connect up to three analogue telephones and, for those of you with the right equipment, up to eight ISDN phones. Ten simultaneous SIP-based VoIP numbers can be configured, with dialling rules applied to automatically select the cheapest tariff,? states reviewer Paul Monckton.

17. Draytel Vigortalk is just right for hassle-free VoIP calls using a standard phone. Reviewer Will Stapley (Personal Computer World) describes Vigortalk as, ?Simple to set up; cheap? decent VoIP adaptor that’s painless to set up and use.? ?This is a hardware VoIP adaptor that sits between a standard phone and your Ethernet router.? It?s perfect for those who were sitting on the fence and avoiding VoIP for fear of setting-up hassles.

18. Your mobile phone is adapting to and incorporating VoIP: ?One of the very cool things about the Nokia E61 is that right out of the box it can handle SIP VOIP calls. Setting this up was surprisingly easy, though manual in nature.?

19. How does Rebtel make international calls cheap for you? The company assigns a local number to you and your calling party in each of your local countries and then you simply call that local number (using your unlimited local calling from your phone plan) and Rebtel flips the call to VOIP and then switches it back over in the respective local international market.

?While this is not for everyone, if you know someone overseas, this is a great way to still maintain the use of your existing phone system, but save massively on international calls. It?s much easier to explain to a parent or grandparent as well as you do not need a computer to make a call - you simply call a new number for your friend.? (Rebtel - globally local VOIP for your mobile)

20. Talkster is another promising company in the FMC market. Blogger Luca Filigheddu states, ?When you click on a contact in your Talkster address book (that you can populate from the web), the Talkster web application “asks” your mobile phone to call a local PSTN number which corresponds to the contact you’re calling. The most interesting point here is that, unlike services like Rebtel, there is just one unique number (corresponding to a local gateway) which is dialed, always the same for all your contacts, and you don’t have to remember it, because it’s automatically dialed by the Talkster’s web application.?

21. At www.mozillavoip.com you can find the collection of VoIP extensions and plugins for the Mozilla suite by Abbeyphone Labs.

22. Actiontec?s VoSky Exchange 9040/80 can be connected to your company PBX in order to make and receive calls from your normal telephone to Skype users (for FREE) or to other fixed or mobile phones taking advantage of Skype’s rates. ?VoSKY Exchange is the first Skype-certified solution that enables businesses of 10 to 300 employees to take full advantage of Skype’s VoIP service. The product requires no changes to existing PBX equipment, phones or user PCs; can be installed in two hours; and allows users to make and receive Skype calls on their regular office phones instead of using a PC and headset.? ? Luca Filigheddu?s blog

23. Voicepulse: Voicepulse’s ‘America Unlimited’ and ‘Local Unlimited’ plans include features such as scheduled do not disturb, anonymous call block, call filters, and telemarketer blocks.

24. Vonage, a key player in the VoIP market, offers free calls to Europe.

25. ?VoiceWing isn’t just a phone service, it’s a communications center that can streamline your calls. Because it functions through your broadband connection, it offers oodles of calling features and capabilities unimaginable with traditional phone service:? - Verizon

26. GloPhone : Besides the free phone calls, benefits include free unlimited PC to PC calling worldwide, click2call directory, calls from your laptop, among others.

27. ?Truphone is an all SIP solution to the problem of providing a converged mobile phone: a mobile phone that also works in your home over wireless LAN. The main alternative to SIP is the UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) specification. UMA technology encapsulates GSM traffic in one or more wireless LAN protocols, transmits it over the unlicensed network and then converts it back into GSM protocol.?

28. ?Legerity’s Wireless products combine silicon integration and software flexibility to tap into the ever-expanding broadband data pipe.?

What are the other applications of VoIP?

29. Vivox recently announced their “one million free minutes” promotion. It enables the 3D virtual world “Second Life” users to speak to each other via their phones using PC VoIP to landline termination (PC-to-PSTN).

30. Teamspeak, used extensively by the online gaming community, offers a scalable VoIP application which enables many users to simultaneously speak to one another. Teamspeak has approximately 1 million online users (compared with Skype’s 3 million). Considering that online gamers often spend hours per day playing online games, Teamspeak may actually have more users online on a daily basis than Skype.

31. Hurricane help through VoIP?: ?Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology helped Allstate Insurance Co. weather hurricanes Rita and Katrina in the Gulf Coast region, enabling quick setup of two offices for displaced agents and claims adjusters who took calls from storm victims??

32. VoIP and the Red Cross: ?Imagine what it must be like to attempt a phone call in the littered wasteland that was once the central Gulf Coast of the United States?? asks the eweek.com article entitled, ‘VOIP to the Rescue.’ Though the Red Cross uses the services of ham radio operators that provide weeks of unpaid labor, they need more. And the more is VoIP ? ?In this case, the Red Cross uses VSATs (very small aperture terminals) to provide the critical links.?

The Adapting Telco?

33. AT&T?s CallVantage is offering plans that are as attractive and competitive as the VoIP companies? plans. We just might see a turnaround!

Conclusion

So does this mean that the telecom giants are finally waking up? It?s true that VoIP services like Vonage and Packet8 are beginning to force the big phone companies to rethink their service offerings and, more importantly, bring their prices down.

?? it’ll be a while before the VoIP companies will have phone companies cowering in fear, but they are offering more services to keep their customers instead of seeing them walk away without a fight. The arrogance of the big phone companies is beginning to wear off, and true competition will emerge for voice services and eventually the consumer will win out.? (VoIP services giving traditional bells a pause)

What this means is that all these changes are ensuring that the consumer is the winner. And that?s good news isn?t it?

Foneshow in BusinessWeek

Foneshow is featured in an article in BusinessWeek today focusing on competitors to Sirius.

Another option: Foneshow lets any phone with text messaging capabilities to catch custom talk radio programming, like Bill Press and Thom Hartmann. But I want to discover some thing new and better than skype. Nowadays people think that skype is the bench mark of cheapest calls any where, but I don't think so, there are several other VoIP service providers like Truphone, Jajah, Fring and Vopium, and all of them are providing very cheap calling rates, but the question is if we found some thing better while paying a little bit more...

Here I want to share the problem I was facing while using VoIP service, i.e. Voice distruction and very few VoIP will focus on this issue, few days back I was searching for alternative of skype, and found a post " Vopium: the alternative of mobile Skype" I go through it and found it interesting, I check Vopium and found it similiar to skype.

Vopium is basically a mobile VoIP provider offering cheap calling rates. It also offer FREE INTERNATIONAL CALLS through Vopium Wi-Fi. The good thing is that they offers FREE 30 minutes for International calls and 100 SMS just for trial. This is the best offer I ever found because other VoIP providers like Rebtel is offering only 10 minutes.

I have tried Vopium and found it the best because of its premium Voice Quality, and they recently come up with there Vopium Sync Application and MWC 2009.

I would like you to also try Vopium, because it gives you the Premium Voice Quality with the cheapest calling rates. And share your experience with me !

Vyke Selected for Membership in Avaya DevConnect Program

Vyke today announced it has been selected by Avaya Inc., a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, for membership in the Avaya DevConnect program.

Vyke’s membership in the DevConnect program supports its continuing drive into the enterprise market sector by allowing it to fully integrate its Mobile VoIP services and software with the Avaya enterprise-oriented communications platforms.

The Avaya DevConnect program promotes the development, compliance-testing and co-marketing of innovative third-party products that are compatible with standards-based Avaya solutions. Both of these services allow you to make phone calls from the computer to anywhere in the world. You can make phone calls using your computer to cell phones, land lines and even to other computers when you take advantage of these services. TruPhone is considered to be one of the easiest ways to learn this type of technology as it is very user friendly and is the choice for many who are confused by voice over internet protocol.

Talking is Easy with TruPhone and VYKE

TruPhone is one of the newer companies that are offering telephone service through the internet. When it comes to using this type of technology, TruPhone makes it easy to understand as even the software is very user friendly. Many people do not understand the concept of using the computer to make phone calls and reject the change from the land lines. However, the VoIP services work comparably well to the land lines. Although this technology is far from perfect, it is very economical, especially if you are making calls to other countries. For this reason, many people who choose VoIP services are business people who need to call other parts of the world.

Talking is Cheap with TruPhone and VYKE

But not all people who order these services are business people. There are many people who want to have the convenience of being able to not only make calls from the computer, but also having one low monthly bill for their service. This is the reason why many people are searching out TruPhone and VYKE. They offer lower monthly payments for phone service - something that most people are eager to use.

VYKE is actually less expensive than TruPhone, but because it is not as well known, it is not as popular with those who want to take advantage of this technology but are not sure how it works. The user friendly atmosphere of TruPhone has caused it to be very popular with individual customers. VYKE is not as well known, although it basically offers the same services as TruPhone for less money.

Paving the Way to Smooth Connections

When it comes to customer service, TruPhone is a company that realizes that many of their customers are those who are not sure about the use of VoIP technology and are used to land lines. The customer service center at TruPhone is very user friendly and is there to answer questions of any of the users in great detail. The customer service center of VYKE is very friendly and obliging and there is actually a shorter wait time when it comes to getting your questions answered when you call VYKE than when you call TruPhone.

Anyone who wants the convenience of being able to make calls by using the technology of broadband with their computer, rather than a land line, can save money by using either TruPhone or VYKE. While this technology is not without flaws and there are cases where there are interruptions of calls, both TruPhone and VYKE are well developed, offer satisfactory customer service and are very user friendly. They are both offered to the individual for a comparable price with VYKE being slightly less expensive than TruPhone.

Nokia Pre-Install Skype in Future!

In a fairly huge win for VoIP fans everywhere, Skype and Nokia have just announced a partnership to preload Skype onto handsets beginning later this year.

But they’re not just throwing the app onto the devices and calling it a day - the integration will run at least contact list deep. Compatible with all operating systems including Java, RIM, Windows Mobile and iPhone, Vopium can save mobile users up to 90% on international phone calls.

Expands service and launches Vopium Sync

Consolidating its position as a leader in global communication, Vopium also today announces that it is the world’s first mobile VoIP provider to offer mobile backup - a free service which allows Vopium customers to store their address book contacts and calendar securely online. Integrated with the Vopium application, Vopium Sync backs up a user’s contacts and calendar direct to their online Vopium account. If a user loses their phone, all they need to do is log on to their Vopium account and retrieve their saved contacts and calendar items. They can also log into their online account at any time and edit contacts and calendar items.

“Vopium’s rapid expansion reflects our desire to be the leading provider of global communication. As part of this commitment we are pleased and proud to be the first mobile VoIP service to offer a back-up solution.” said Tanveer Sharif, CEO of Vopium. “We know quite how important and irreplaceable the contacts we store on our phone are and that’s why we’ve launched Vopium Sync. Combined with the traditional free and heavily discounted calls, Vopium truly offers a 360 degree communications package to every mobile user across the world.”

Vopium is a free software program that uses mobile VoIP and Wi-Fi technology to reduce the cost of international phone calls on mobile whilst also maintaining excellent call quality. Free and easy to download, Vopium integrates directly with the address book on the phone, automatically re-routing all international calls via the least expensive method available. In addition to heavily discounted international calls, Vopium users can also slash the costs of sending text messages (SMS) abroad as each message only costs 0.1EUR. Vopium users are also able to make free and heavily discounted calls using Vopium Wi-Fi. Automatically detecting if a user is connected to Wi-Fi, Vopium Wi-Fi users can call other Vopium Wi-Fi users for free anywhere in the world. If a Vopium Wi-Fi user calls a non-Vopium Wi-Fi user, they only have to pay the reduced international Vopium rate.

About Vopium:

Vopium is a carrier-grade mobile telephony service designed to offer affordable and reliable international calls from any mobile handset. By using the Vopium application on their mobile to make calls from their home country, consumers and businesses alike can save up to 90% on international mobile and land-line calls.
